Canadian Small Favours showcases intimate ceramic works from across Canada, celebrating diversity, skill, and voice - each piece a powerful testament to clay’s enduring presence, intimacy, and cultural resonance.

Small works. Expansive ideas.

Favours presents fifty Canadian ceramic artists, each contributing a work no larger than 13 x 13 cm. Responding to the 2026 NCECA theme Volumes, the exhibition approaches volume as presence -artists making space for ideas, histories, and touch within ceramic practices. Clay records pressure. It holds memory, carrying the trace of the hand. Within these intimate works, artists gather complex ideas into focused forms -playful, political, restrained, and materially attentive. At a moment when ceramics programs across Canada are shrinking or disappearing, Favours stands as both celebration and reminder: this field endures through the communities that sustain it.

The Deep Water Gallery is proud to announce the

opening of "Women on Fire," a pottery show featuring ceramic pieces created by

talented female artists. This exhibition will run from June 27 to August 2, 2025,

showcasing the extraordinary craftsmanship and creativity of women in the field of

ceramics.

“Women on Fire" is a powerful exhibition that celebrates the artistry and resilience of

women makers. This show encapsulates the transformative act of making pottery, where

fire and heat stabilize the clay, turning raw earth into enduring art. Historically, women

have been intimately connected with fire and the hearth, symbolizing both creation and

sustenance. This exhibition acknowledges the rise of women artists who are masters of

their craft and pushing the traditional boundaries of functionality and meaning.

Opening Reception: Saturday, June 28th at 2:00 pm

Location: Deep Water Gallery, Wiarton, Ontario

Exhibition Dates: June 27 – August 2nd, 2025

Gallery Hours: Thursday to Saturday, 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM

The opening reception will feature a meet-and-greet with the artists, providing

attendees with the chance to learn more about their creative processes and inspirations.

"We are thrilled to host 'Women on Fire," said Elisabeth Heathfield, curator of the

exhibition. "This exhibition not only showcases their artistic achievements but also

empowers and inspires the community through their stories and creations. In these

turbulent times, women are facing increasing challenges to their rights, with a

resurgence of sexism and anti-feminist rhetoric. "Women on Fire" is not just an artistic

statement but a call to action. It represents women who are ignited with passion and

determination, speaking out for their rights and asserting their place in the world, the

art community, and politics. This exhibition is a testament to their strength, resilience,

and unwavering commitment to equality and justice.”

About Deep Water Gallery: The Deep Water Gallery is dedicated to promoting and

supporting the arts in the local community. Through exhibitions, workshops, and events, the gallery provides a platform for artists to share their work and engage with the

Annika is excited to be showing several pieces from her Bloom series in the group show Colour and Form at Lalani Jennings Contemporary Art Gallery.

The opening reception will be held Friday, January 20, 6-9pm

“Lalani Jennings Contemporary Art is a new contemporary art gallery located in Guelph, Ontario.  Founded in June 2022,  our mission is to bring together a dynamic group of diverse artists of whom, through our eyes, best represent the unique spectrum of contemporary Canadian Art.”

Annika will be one of several Canadian artists participating in Black & Smith’s Holiday Exhibition. She will have a small selection of her chevron bowls and tumblers available to purchase from the shop.

There will be an opening event Saturday December 3, 6pm-8pm

“After the store was left empty for over 20 years, we opened the space in 2015 as a modern general store that specialized in quality handmade objects. We started with our house made pottery and a small collection of locally produced gifts, and expanded to carry work by over 60 Canadian artists, from coast to coast.”

Annika will have her 2022 florae-inspired collection “Bloom” on display in the Craft Ontario gallery shop for the month of November.

The display can be viewed from outside the window, but if you would like a closer look, the gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday 12pm-6pm (Closed Sunday-Monday).

Formerly the Ontario Crafts Council, Craft Ontario is a not-for-profit member driven organization, in service of professional craftspeople. “‘100 Vases’ is inspired by the possibilities presented when objects come together, and the dialogue that happens between them. An exhibition in a studio setting that will showcase a 100 ceramic vases by Toronto artists.
